
Students from the Roanoke Valley Governor’s School for Science and Technology learned how to assess water quality through biological sampling Tuesday in a stretch of Murray Run that flows through Roanoke’s Fishburn Park.
March Lucht, director of programs with the Clean Valley Council, led the watery workshop. The students found crayfish and invertebrates such as caddisfly larvae, which are sensitive to pollution. “It would be nice to find some bigger ones, but the fact they found so many is really great,” Lucht said.
